The St. Clare Home - the striking bright blue
three storied building on Oxford Street, houses the elderly in need of a
home away from home in a peaceful and loving environment.
This home was founded in the 1830's by St. Clare, a young wealthy French lady, full of
compassion and so moved by the plight of the poor, that she sold her jewels and
used the cash to help alleviate the want and suffering among them.
The Home was established as a memorial to Mrs. Rawle, wife of a former
Bishop, in recognition of her charitable work among the poor in the city of Port
of Spain.
The operation of this Home is governed by a Trust of which the sole Trustee
is the Very Reverend Dr. Knolly Clarke, of the Cathedral Church of the
Holy Trinity.
A Management Committee comprising of members drawn from different
parishes of the Diocese operates the Home which has as its main focus, the
care of the elderly in need of companionship and shelter in a Christian
environment, and the provision of meals on a daily basis for needy persons in
the community.
The St. Clare Home is dependent on donations and gifts from all well -
wishers to supplement the income from fees received from the residents.
